About St George Bank
St George Bank was founded as the St George's Cooperative Building Society in 1937, in the Sutherland Shire area south of Sydney. Growing into Australia's largest building society, it subsequently became a bank in 1992. Most of its business is carried out in NSW, although it does have branches in other states, as well as through Bank SA in South Australia. The fifth largest bank in Australia in terms of market share, record profits of around $1bn were posted at the end of the financial year 2006, under CEO Gail Kelly. St George is strong on retail and home lending, with competitive rates on other services such as health insurance, for example. They provide a range of banking services, such as a banking accounts, home and personal loans, credit cards and insurance. As well as their wealth management services, such as financial planning, or opportunities for investing with partners Asgard, Advance or Ascalon, St George offer substantial business banking products that cater to a range of needs, from small-scale to major corporate.
