Wizard, as the institution is commonly known, began life in 1996 when it launched in the mortgage market with the aim of taking on the major banks. After a decade in the business Wizard is Australia's leading non-bank lender for home loans and has 250 branches across the country. Wizard prides itself on the claim that their branches are small local businesses run by local people with local knowledge.

Wizard has won the title of “Mortgage Manager of The Year” from the Mortgage Industry Association three years running, “Cheapest Home Loan” from Money Magazine four years running, and “Best Non-Bank Lender” by according to the Australian Bank and Finance Magazine three times.

Financed by GE Money, a provider of credit services in 42 countries with assets of $130bn, Wizard also prides itself on its ability to combine its local knowledge with the reliability and support of a large financial backer. Wizard employs more than 100 people in their corporate marketing team in Sydney.

Despite operating under the name Wizard Home Loans, the company also offers a variety of other loans, including car loans and loans for businesses, as well as other real estate services. The company has also branched out to provide credit cards, such as the Wizard Clear Advantage Mastercard, as well as offering insurance, including home and contents and landlord's insurance.
